A Battle of Wills…

Ruby’s story…………

This is the face that you pull when you eat something that doesn’t taste good. You know me friends, I will pretty much eat anything and everything, but there is one thing that I do not like and that’s tablets.

Don’t worry friends I’m not sick, this was a worming tablet, you see when we went to the vets the other day, they got my tablets. They have to get them from there because they are the only things that can combat the delightful things that I eat on a day to day basis.

They try to trick me with these tablets, they try and hide them in my breakfast…really are they serious, do they honestly think that someone with my sophisticated palette would not know that there was a tablet hidden in my food. So I ate round it, and I left it in the bottom of the bowl.

So they tried again, this time they wrapped it in a slice of bread, honestly, do these two know nothing, they are going to have to try harder than this to get me to eat these tablets, but let’s go through the motions, give me the bread, I’ll eat it and spit out the tablet.

Now, what came next really did test my self control, you see next came the cheese. I do like a bit of cheese, I really do, but I knew that if I pushed them, there was something better still to come. But here we go, lets at least make an effort, the cheese was yummy, thanks mum and dad, but you can have the tablet back, and yet again it was dropped on the floor.

But then, hallelujah, the penny has finally dropped, they’ve finally realised what they have to do…… out comes the ham!!!!

Oh, OK mum, you win…….. give me the tablet…………

Mum’s story……………

When we went to the vets the other day, we picked up Ruby’s worming table. We have to get them from the vets, to make sure that they’re strong enough to deal with the foul things that she eats on a day to day basis.

For a Labrador who will eat pretty much anything and everything, the more disgusting the better, try getting a worming tablet down her and you’ve got your work cut out for you.

Put it in her breakfast we thought, she gobbles that down so quickly, she won’t even notice. How wrong where we, she still ate her food at exactly the same speed as usual, but she still managed to leave the little tablet in the bottom of the bowl.

We had to try something different…. bread, that will do it…… so we wrapped the little tablet in some bread, she’s bound to swallow this……….. but think again, down went the bread, and out came the tablet, as she casually spat it out on the floor. This is ridiculous, she eats everything, how hard can it be to get a tiny tablet down her. I know she can’t resist cheese, normally, all you have to do is get the block of the cheese out of the fridge and she’s dripping like tap. This has got to work….. in it goes, this looks good, I think she’s swallowed it down, good job done……… but no what’s this, she spits it out again.

Right, that’s it, this tablet has got to go down, there is nothing for it, get out the big guns…. get out the ham !!!!!!

Hallelujah………finally, she’s swallowed it, we’ve won……… that showed her……..
