Ruby’s story……………….
The day that I found out where you could get free food from was one of the best days of my life. I was out in the garden and daddy, who likes to have a good sweep up every so often, had very kindly left the gate open when he went outside. Oh this was exciting I’d never been outside the garden on my own, I’ll have a quick look round. As I was getting my bearings outside the garden, it suddenly hit me, what was that smell, oh that smells good, that smells like food. I have to find this delicious smelling food, where is it, I have to find it. So I literally followed my nose, and there it was, right there in front of me a banquet laid out in the garden of our neighbours house, plates and plates of free food. I couldn’t help it, I couldn’t resist. Well it was there for the taking, so I ate it, I ate it all….. I was just finishing off my sixth plate and licking it clean, well I do have manners and will clean up after myself, when mummy suddenly appeared with my lead in her hand. No mummy I don’t want a walk, anyway I’m full now from my feast, I’m not coming for a walk.
Mummy tried to grab me, but no mummy I’ve just said I’m not coming for a walk, I’m too full from my food, so I saw my chance to escape and ran through the open door into the neighbours kitchen. But oh oh, what I was confronted with in here was much worse than my mummy trying to take me for a walk, there sitting on the table and staring down at me were the two biggest cats that I had ever seen, in fact they were the first cats that I had ever seen, and blimey if I never saw one again it would be too soon. As soon as I ran in, they both stood up on their tip toes backs arched and then they started spitting and screaming at me. Thank goodness the lady of the house then appeared and saved my skin from the two cats who were now baying for my blood as I realised that the banquet laid out in the garden that I had just eaten was their tea.
Unfortunately, I didn’t learn my lesson the draw of free food was just too much for me and still to this day any opportunity I have to get to that garden and that food I take it, but not only do the cats get fed round there, so do the birds and sometimes when I go round there I get lucky and there’s some bread to have with my cat food, I love it…….. and I’m sure that you’ll hear much more about it in my story’s to come.
Mummy’s story…………………
We quickly realised that anything that was put in front of the puppy she ate, whether it was food or pretty much anything else really, if it was there she ate it.
One day the other half, who at any opportunity, enjoyed nothing more than getting his broom out and having a good sweep up outside, was distracted mid sweep one day and left the garden gate open. When we realised that the puppy wasn’t in the garden, the open gate meant only one thing she was out and about on her own. Panic quickly kicked in, I grabbed her lead and grabbed the other half and off we ran. We couldn’t see her either up or down the lane so decided to look in the neighbours gardens. Our neighbour was a kindly soul, although a little fanatical about cats, particularly stray cats and used to leave plates of cat food out for them in her garden, and that’s where we found her, and what we also saw was six empty plates of cat food, oh no, she’d cleared them all, her little belly was so swollen she could hardly move, but every plate was licked clean.
It was then that she looked up and saw us, but eating all the cat food wasn’t enough for her, oh no, she decided not to come back to us, what she decided to do was run into our neighbours house and probably look for more food. Bless her when she got in there though she was confronted with two of the biggest cats I’d ever seen, let alone a little puppy. Then our neighbour appeared and shooed the cats away before they both pounced on the puppy who ate all their food.
But even this scare, even being confronted by two very anger enormous cats, did this put her off, oh no every opportunity she now gets to get out of the garden and into next doors garden she’s there and she clears every plate in front of her, the trouble is not only does our neighbour feed the cats she also feeds the birds, by leaving bread out, and sometimes we’ve caught her round there with half a load of bread in her mouth…. but that’s another story…..
